One of St. Petersburg’s most famous and popular attractions, the palace and park at Peterhof (also known as Petrodvorets) is often referred to as “the Russian Versailles”. Versailles was indeed an inspiring factor for Peter the Great when he decided to build this grandeur imperial palace next to the St. Petersburg. Peterhof is a truly magnificent place with breathtaking parks and gardens, extravagant fountains incredibly decorated with sculptures and bas-reliefs, the Grand Palace, Monplaisir and Marly Palaces. The range and diversity of fountains is astounding, the interiors of the Palaces are breathtaking, and the spirit of Imperial Russia is still alive in Peterhof. Make sure you have at least one day to visit Petrodvorets — the territory is vast and includes plenty of museums and places of interest!
