Tour Details

10 days / 9 nights

This is your chance to comfortably get to the most remote region of Georgia – mountain Svanetia. If you haven’t been to Svanetia – you haven’t seen Georgia: picturesque mountains, legends, the tough Svans themselves and their unique culture will definitely impress you.

Arrival at Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport. Transfer to a hotel in the very heart of a tourist area in Tbilisi.

Breakfast at the hotel .
Our program starts with a sightseeing tour in Mtskheta – one of the oldest and vibrant centers of Christianity in Georgia. The place is in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must- see place.
Jvari Monastery translated as “The Monastery of the Cross”, 6th Century
Svetitskhoveli cathedral, 10th century
Samtavro – a magnificent sample of Georgian architecture built presumably in the 4th century and reconstructed in the 11th century.

Next is lunch at a fine Georgian cuisine restaurant. It is a great opportunity to taste the best delights of Georgian cuisine: soup dumplings called khinkali, khachapuri adjaruli (cheese-filled bread), churchkhela (a sort of confections), ajapsandali (a vegetarian dish) and, of course, all kinds of barbeque meat which Georgia is so famous for.

We go on with a guided tour around the capital of Georgia. Tbilisi is a 1500 years old city where you can enjoy a harmonious combination of modern lifestyle, warm-hearted people, ancient history, rich culture and superb cuisine, so while sightseeing, you will definitely find something you are into.

In the evening there is a possibility to visit one of the most popular restaurants in Tbilisi where you can enjoy a country dance show.

In the morning we set off for Kutaisi – the legislative capital of Georgia, and the third most popular city. We will accommodate in a 3* hotel and start with a sightseeing tour of Kutaisi. There is also time for lunch and a visit to Gelati monastery (12 AD) – a medieval monastic complex. It is a masterpiece of the Georgian Golden Age and is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Historically, Gelati was one of the main cultural and intellectual centers in Georgia. It had an Academy which employed some of the most celebrated Georgian scientists, theologians and philosophers. There are still a lot of interesting things to see and hear about.

A return to Kutaisi and some free time in the evening.

Breakfast at the hotel and we set off for Mestia (the main regional center of mountain Svaneti). On our way we’ll visit the Prometheus Cave and enjoy the wonders of Georgian nature. It is one of Georgia’s natural wonders providing visitors with breathtaking examples of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, and lakes. You will not only walk through the place but also experience the 280-meter boat tour on an underground river.

It will take us five hours to get to the next destination, but the views are just wonderful. Zugdidi – a small town where you are going to visit the residence of Dadiani family – potentates of Samegrelo. The residence of the sovereign was first built by the ruler of Odishi, Levan II Dadiani (1611-1657). The family is famous for its relationship with Napoleon Bonaparte himself.

Later, there is time for lunch and the chance to taste delicious Megrelian cuisine.

We go on with the trip and enjoy some stunning views of the Inguri hydroelectric station. In a couple of hours, we will reach today’s final destination – Mestia. It is a mountain area, as well as a unique place with stunning views and architecture. There are medieval Svan stone houses with watch towers that have been preserved from ancient times; churches of X – XIV centuries including Matskhvari (Savior) and Targzel (Holy Archangels). There are Numerous medieval churches and fortifications of the Mestia district that are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Everything here is different and out of this world, so you just have to be here and enjoy.

Breakfast at the hotel.
You are in Mestia and you have your time for both: classical tourist attractions as well as a meditation on the natural beauty of the place.

The Ethnographic Museum of Mestia – a place where the archaeological and cultural treasures of the region are preserved. You might not like museums and think they are boring, but this is not the case. The place is really worth visiting and the museum has rich cultural and historical artifacts.
The Old Svan residential complex of the Margiani family – the hostess of the family will give us an excursion and tell us about the Svans firsthand.
A walk around Hatsvali – a popular ski resort that has been created not so long ago, but has already gained popularity both among the local population and the tourists. A stunning view of Svaneti mountains opens from above and you can have some coffee, enjoying the beauty from the top of the world: take a walk, meditate, think about life and at some point just stay alone with your inner self.

Today we hit the road by off-road vehicles. Today we go even higher and get acquainted with the pearl of this region – the Village of Ushguli.
Ushguli is the highest settlement in Europe (approx. 2500 m above sea level). The village is located on the southern slope of Mount Shkhara – the highest peak of the Caucasus. We will see a well-preserved medieval architecture with more than 30 Svan fortress towers as well as enjoy the beauty of high mountains.

Breakfast. We leave the mountainous region of Svanetia and move to Batumi. The trip takes time but it will not be boring. As always, we will find where to stop, have lunch and stretch our legs.
Late in the evening we are in Batumi hotel. You have your free time in the evening.

Today you have a free morning for swimming in the sea and we will meet after lunch for a guided tour around the city and a visit to The Batumi Botanical Garden. The place overlooks the Black Sea and is one of the largest and richest botanical gardens in the world.

In the evening you have a possibility to visit a show in a famous Batumi Dolphinarium. There are shows at 5pm and 9 pm. You also have an opportunity to swim with the dolphins after the show.

This day you are spending as you wish. Enjoy the sun and the sea and have the time of your life.
In the evening there is time to start our way back home.

Transfer to Tbilisi for your flight back home .
